In the afternoon, we boarded a boat to Mykonos. The boat was large and we had to stay inside. There was food available however. We arrived on the island in the early evening and were driven to our hotel by one of the hotel staff. The hotel was on a steep hill, which was okay when we were driving, but was annoying to walk up later. We relaxed there for a moment and then headed out to find dinner. We ended up finding a restaurant that was right on the water. The restaurant served a variety of traditional Greek food. I tried a bite of moussaka. Moussaka is basically a Greek lasagna with eggplant instead of noodles. After dinner, we walked to the windmills that are a signature of Mykonos, and of the islands in general. We then stopped for Greek frozen yogurt on the way back to our hotel.
Thursday, June 7th, 2012: Delos
We woke up early on Thursday and caught a boat to Delos. Delos is a small island near Mykonos. On the island are a lot of ruins of the ancient Greeks. We spent about an hour and a half walking around the island and seeing the ruins. There was a climb to a high point on the island that had some ruins on it as well as a good view of the island below. We had to rush around at the end so that we could catch the most convenient ferry, although we did manage to see most of the things we needed to see on the island. The buildings on the island varied in condition, with some buildings being better preserved than others.
When we got back to Mykonos, we went to the bus station to go to the beaches. The first beach we went to was called Paradise beach. The beach was not very crowded because it was early in the season, but the beach was full of sun umbrellas and lounge chairs. Each of the many bars was also playing loud, bad music. We changed in the bathroom. went for a quick swim, and then kept walking along the beach to the next one. The next beach was similar to Paradise, and so we kept going to the next one. On our way to the third one, we found a nice, quite spot to swim. The only problem with it was that the ground was rocky and there were not very many spots that were easy to walk on. We did manage to swim to a nice rock though. We relaxed on the rock for a while before swimming back to the shore and continuing on to the final beach. From there, we took a bus back to the main village on Mykonos and had a late dinner. We then went back to the hotel, relaxed, and went to sleep.
Friday, June 8th, 2012: Mykonos to Milos
Because our ferry was in the evening, we had the opportunity to sleep in. We then walked down into the city to have lunch before returning to our hotel to catch our ferry to Milos. We boarded the ferry around 3 and got to Milos at around 8. When we arrived, we were driven to our hotel by the owner. The hotel was situated close to the center of the town. Our rooms were on the third floor. Both had views overlooking the town we were in. After we checked in and chose our rooms, we went into the town to find dinner. We ate at a nice place near the water. Afterwards, we browsed the various options for cruises around the island. We ended up settling on one that left at 9:15 in the morning but went around the entire island. We then bought some things for the morning and went back to our hotel.
